It’s important to farm intelligently; the best way to do that is to farm projects with the biggest gem allocation.

Read this to get started if you haven’t bridged over to Sonic yet.

Once you have Sonic in your wallet, do the following:

The only thing you will get in return is points, so you’ll have to decide how much you’re willing to lose to multiply your points and get more for the airdrop.

Welcome to Hyperliquid’s wild 2025—and the war with Binance is just getting started.

Hyperliquid has been top of mind for several weeks now thanks to mystery whale shorting $300M of Bitcoin and it’s growing ecosystem of apps, along with a rumored new airdrop season just around the corner.

The drama increased when a trader on Hyperliquid opened a massive $6M short position on $JELLY, then intentionally pumping it’s price on on-chain, forcing a self-liquidation that left Hyperliquid’s liquidity pool holding a toxic short position with over -$10M due to the short squeeze.

Hyperliquid’s HLP faced a potential full liquidation if $JELLY reached a $150M market cap.

Many speculated that it was a coordinated attack by centralized exchanges, all but confirmed when Binance listed $JELLY shortly after the drama unfolded. Posts on X suggested Binance’s timing was a deliberate attempt to destabilize Hyperliquid, with one user alleging Binance and OKX were “rushing to bankrupt a competitor.”

Others claimed Hyperliquid manipulated its oracle to force-close trades, undermining its decentralized ethos.

Why would Binance and other centralized exchanges rush to attack Hyperliquid? Well, because they’re eating into CEX's market share.

The fallout has fueled speculation about a broader war between centralized exchanges (CEXs) like Binance and decentralized platforms (DEXs) like Hyperliquid. Binance’s move could be seen as a strategic play to capitalize on Hyperliquid’s vulnerability, while Hyperliquid’s response highlighted the risks of leveraged trading on DEXs.

The Hyper Foundation holds 6% of the total supply of HYPE.

Hyperliquid is gearing up for another airdrop soon, as they still have 38% of the supply to distribute.

There were no VCs, so the rest of the airdrop will go to the community like the original.

There’s already a lot of bullish information about Hyperliquid, so I will leave that out of this newsletter and focus on helping you get the biggest airdrop possible.

Something important to note is that the airdrop campaign is not officially live.

Many of the apps in this newsletter also have a points system that isn’t live.

However, it’s been hinted multiple times that they will retroactively apply points depending on how you engage with the ecosystem.

Before we get into the more advanced airdrop farming strategies, let’s get the basics out of the way.

How to Get Started

Bridge to HyperEVM.

You have two options:

1. Transfer to EVM

If you’re already on Hyperliquid, click transfer to EVM to get started.

2. Use deBridge.

If you aren’t on Hyperliquid yet, deBridge is the quickest and easiest way to get to HyperEVM.

3. Use Hyperliquid DEX

The most obvious way to earn points for the airdrop is to generate volume on Hyperliquid.

You can do this by trading perps and buying spot assets.

It’s highly speculated that they will reward people who buy spot Bitcoin or transfer it to the EVM.

Everyone is chasing Bitcoin liquidity because it has the biggest market cap and the biggest whales.

A mystery whale recently shorted $300M worth of Bitcoin on Hyperliquid on a Sunday afternoon.

Imagine if there were more whales trading spot as well?

Make sure to also leave some HYPE on the Hyperliquid app and stake it.

They recently announced staking tiers, which enable discounted trading fees.

Staking will likely earn you bonus points, as they want to incentivize holding HYPE in any way possible.

The BNB chain has a similar model, and that’s their primary competition for perps, so I’m assuming they will do whatever it takes to beat them out, especially now that Hyperliquid is on CZs radar.

Interact With HyperEVM

Now that you have the basics down, it’s time to get active on HyperEVM by using as many different apps as possible!

The first airdrop was all about generating volume on the groundbreaking Hyperliquid app.

Most are speculating that the next airdrop will be all about incentivizing using the EVM.

Ultimately, Hyperliquid wants to position itself as a top layer-1 above Solana and Ethereum.

Luckily for you, there are a lot of apps to choose from, many of which have their own points program for an airdrop.

If you do this right, you will position yourself for a massive windfall.

I’ve outlined a clear path to getting started below.

Once you’ve executed the steps below, I suggest you keep clicking around the ecosystem to maximize the size of your airdrop.

4. Stake Your HYPE on stakedhype

Go to https://www.stakedhype.fi/stake and stake your HYPE for stHYPE.

5. Deposit and Borrow

Now that you have stHYPE, go to https://app.hypurr.fi/, deposit your stHYPE, and borrow HYPE.

It’s important to note you are levering up and looping your assets, which increases the risk of liquidation.

If you want to reduce your risk, turn efficiency mode on:

Once you’ve turned on efficiency mode, enter the amount of HYPE you want to borrow and click “continue.”

Once you click continue, click approve, deposit, and borrow (so many buttons to click!)

6. Go Back to stakedhype, repeat

Staking, depositing, and borrowing against your HYPE seems like an easy way to stack points for the airdrop.

That said, you also want to avoid getting liquidated, so go to your dashboard and check your health factor.

If it’s too low, deposit more HYPE to improve your health factor to “healthy.”

Make sure your health factor is always “healthy.”

The goal is to maximize your points for the Hyperliquid airdrop, not get liquidated.

HypurrFi states it’s tough to get liquidated because HYPE and stHYPE are closely matched.

Still, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

This is probably one of the easiest and best combos for stacking points for the airdrop, as you’re executing and looping three different actions on the EVM.

• Bridging to HyperEVM

• Staking your HYPE

• Borrowing HYPE

Again, we have no way of knowing how many points this will accrue, but it’s an action that a lot of projects want to incentivize.

A good example is Sonic and Silo with their 80x airdrop farming points hack I wrote about here.

Engineers think similarly along the lines of incentives. If Sonic and Silo are assigning that much value to this action, I assume the engineers in the Hyperliquid ecosystem are thinking the same way.

7. Degen on Hyperswap

Now that you’re passively earning points by staking your HYPE, it’s time to get active and swap tokens on https://app.hyperswap.exchange.

Hyperswap is similar to Jupiter on Solana, so it’s reasonable to think they’ll have a decent-sized airdrop.

You can earn points in three ways on Hyperswap:

• Swapping (duh!)

• Providing liquidity

• Staking HYPE

There are more and more tokens launching on HyperEVM all the time, and you can trade them all on Hyperswap.

For example, you can swap “Buddy” and earn points for every swap.

Go on Hyperswap daily and swap a small amount for a memecoin, and then swap out the next day or after whatever time frame you want.

Keep an eye on fees so they don’t destroy your profits.

Swap into less volatile coins like stHYPE, WHYPE, or LHYPE to protect against losing to fees.

You can also stake your HYPE or create a concentrated liquidity position.

I don't know how many points each action gets you, so I suggest trying all three.

You can apply the same exact strategy as above on Kittenswap or Sunder Finance.

Their points program is also live, but it seems that Hyperswap is the Jupiter exchange of Hyperliquid, and the other two are trying to play catch-up.

8. Trade NFTs on Drip Trade

Yes, we know.

You’re here for the “art,” not the “tech,” so head over to Drip. Trade next to start trading NFTs.

Drip.Trade is similar to Blur in that it caters to professional (degen?) traders.

They will also have an airdrop, but their rewards tab isn’t live yet, so I have no clue how much you’ll get for each trade.

The most popular NFT project on HyperEVM is Wealthy Hypio Babies, currently worth about 145 HYPE.

You can earn points on your Hypio Babies as well but the project you’ll want to pay attention to is Hypers, which is the official NFT project of Drip.Trade.

Wealthy Hypio Babies get whitelist access and token airdrops, and Hypers will likely have similar perks soon.

Remember Tensorians for Tensor on Solana?

Hypers could play out in a similar way where Drip.trade gives you points multipliers for holding their flagship NFT.

You can do much more stuff, probably more advanced than what I’ve outlined in this newsletter.

However, I wanted to give you the simplest and easiest path to rack up points for the airdrop.

After clicking around the ecosystem for hours myself, this is the best route I found.

Two other apps to keep an eye on:

LoopedHYPE, which provides 10% APY, but it’s currently on the waitlist.

Felix is a stablecoin where you can borrow against blue-chip collateral and earn native yield.

It is currently on test net but will also have a points program.

More cash is flooding the system, and it’s starting to look like the crypto bloodbath might be nearing its bottom.

Here’s the breakdown:

M2 Money Supply Growth: Indicates that more money is circulating in the economy, often leading to increased spending and economic activity.

Continuous Expansion: The growth represents the 11th consecutive month of money supply expansion, suggesting a sustained trend of increasing liquidity in the economy.

Global Money Supply Increase: The global money supply has increased by roughly $2 trillion over the past two months, reaching its highest level since September 2024, which means increased liquidity.

Total US Dollars Circulation: The total amount of US dollars in circulation has reached $21.6 trillion, just shy of an all-time high set in April 2022.

To top it off, Polymarket is now projecting the quantitative tightening cycle we’ve been in since 2022 has a 100% chance of ending before May!

So, what does this mean for your bags?

More cash in the system typically drives interest rates down—cheap borrowing, more spending, and a tailwind for risky assets like crypto.

Historically, Bitcoin’s price has tracked global M2 growth like a shadow; when M2 jumped 4% in 2020, BTC soared 50% in three months.

The last piece? Rate cuts.

Two or three in 2025 are now at 22% odds each on Polymarket, a sharp pivot from the ‘no cuts’ gloom just weeks ago.

So, is this market at the bottom of the crypto bloodbath?

It’s starting to seem that way when you get out of your feelings and look at the macro factors lining up.

All eyes are on the next FOMC on March 19th, where we’ll see if Jerome Powell pivots from hawkish to dovish.

If he even hints at ditching QT in May, expect markets to rip harder than a moon boy shilling his bags on X.

Trump's election was supposed to be a dream come true for crypto because he’d surely pump it to Valhala, especially after saying he wants to make the US the crypto capital of the world.

His crypto policy was set to legitimize the industry instead of attacking it, which was a refreshing approach after Operation Chokepoint 2.0.

For the first time, there would be a clear regulatory framework, and laws would be enacted to foster innovation instead of hindering it.

Promises Made, Promises Kept

Here are some highly bullish things Trump has already done for crypto which should have pumped the price by now:

• Hire David Sacks to lead prop crypto legislation and regulation

• Appointed Hester Peirce to lead the new Crypto Task Force

• Tell Gary Gensler to take a hike

• Host the very first crypto summit at the Whitehouse

• Sign an executive order for the Bitcoin Strategic Reserve

• Launch a crypto project (World LibertyFi

• Buy millions of Ethereum (the dying communist chain)

But none of that matters as the price continues to fall into the shadow realm.

Many altcoins have completely retraced their Trump pump gains.

Bitcoin has held up surprisingly well during this blood bath, but it’s on shaky ground now.

Things were much different during election night when it was clear Trump would be elected.

Bitcoin went from $68,000 to $107,000, and the rest of the market rallied alongside it.

Times have changed, and the euphoria of the election pump is gone.

The only thing that’s left is a brutal hangover that smells like broken dreams and last night’s regrets.

Bitcoin now sits at $80,854, looking weaker and weaker by the day.

No asset is safe, as the stock market is tanking as well.

So why is the market tanking with so much bullish information and a bag-pumping president in office?

There are a lot of different theories floating around, but here are the main reasons:

Trade War and Tariffs

Every day, there’s a new headline about a new tariff, either from Trump flexing on world leaders or another country retaliating.

Tariffs have sparked fears of inflation and economic instability, leading to risk aversion among investors.

Institutional Profit-Taking

We finally got what we wanted!

The institutions arrived and bought the ETFs hand over fist, so why did the number go down?

Wait, you didn’t really think that institutions would HODL through a 50% drawdown, did you?

Institutions take profits, especially if crypto is on balance sheets.

They definitely will not hold for a loss if they can avoid it.

They also don’t have the moxie to hold an asset that draws down 50%+.

Remember, a 3% gain for them is printing; they consider a “crash” to be 20% or greater.

In crypto, if an asset pulls back 80%, it just is what it is, but that doesn’t mean institutional capital will hold on for the ride.

Economic Reset

What’s happening now is a controlled demolition of sorts.

Instead of fixing Biden's economy, which Trump bashed relentlessly, Trump crashes the market and rebuilds it exactly how he wants it to be.

If he tries to fix what Biden has done over the last four years, it will never truly be his.

If he crashes the markets and revives them, flooding them with euphoria, he will be considered a hero.

They say people don’t remember what you do. Instead, they remember how you feel, and there’s no bigger adrenaline rush than green candles.

Lower interest rates

Jerome Powell has been stubborn about interest rates.

He refuses to cut until inflation hits 2%, but he’s never had to deal with a master negotiator like Trump, who puts maximum pressure on his opponents.

By crashing the markets, Jerome may have no choice, which is what Trump has wanted all along.

Memecoin Disgust

Memecoins were something people embraced because they became disillusioned with the VC layer-1 launch playbook.

Sure, memecoins are scams, but at least they didn’t have insider VCs up 10x by the time retail started to buy.

What was once considered the purest form of crypto is now no different from the pump-and-dump VC schemes of the early days of crypto.

People are disgusted after learning about the insider extraction game played out toward the end with Kelsier, Meteora, and Jupiter.

And they are dumping to show their disgust.

Where Do We Go From Here?

If layer-1s are worthless vaporware and memecoins are just extraction scams, what is left to do in crypto?

Judging from the talking points from Trump and Howard Lutnick, this might take a while to play out.

Q1 is currently a wash, and even if we start to reverse in Q2, the overall structure will take a while to rebuild.

As of today, unless Trump makes a 180-degree policy shift, a V-shaped recovery doesn’t look likely.

So my message to you, if you haven’t already sold, is to hang on and let this play out. There’s no way Trump will allow the stock market or crypto to tank for his entire presidency.

At some point, he will swoop in and save the market.

I just have no idea when that could be or how much lower we could go first.

Part of the reason crypto is so profitable is that you can uncover infinite money glitches. Like any software, crypto is full of errors that must be fixed and optimized over time.

Developers do their best to prevent hacks and glitches but can only do so much.

This is why hacker groups like Lazarus are so profitable. Not everyone wants to be a hacker, but you can profit honestly by uncovering degenerate opportunities in DeFi.

There’s no better way to uncover glitches than during an airdrop. Chains want to reward users who engage with multiple apps in their ecosystem, and Sonic is no different.

Or is Trump playing 4D chess to rewrite crypto’s future?

X is buzzing with manipulation talk—same old bear market denial when a dog in a hat stops looking like the future.

While Trump's purposeful tanking of the market is likely conspiracy theory nonsense, let’s explore this scenario just for fun.

So, why would Trump crash crypto on purpose?

1. Flush the Scammers

Crypto’s both a genius magnet and a grifter’s playground.

Everyone knows it.

Countless examples of speculative mania in crypto include ICOs, food farms, NFTs, and memecoins.

But what if it didn’t have to be that way?

Crashing the market drives the SBF wannabes away because all the easy money disappears.

History shows after every speculative crypto mania, true believers stick around and build innovative, new applications.

For the first time, crypto can be rebuilt with clear rules in place so there’s no gray area for the good or bad guys.

It all starts with the Whitehouse Crypto Summit, where the industry’s best and brightest will come together to influence policy.

No more founders guessing what is or isn’t legal while dodging fines from Gary Gensler and the SEC.

2. Make the US Crypto’s Capital

Biden’s war on crypto sent some of crypto’s best builders scrambling offshore to other countries.

Trump wants them back.

For all the flack Trump gets for being racist, he’s always maintained that he wants the US to attract the world’s brightest minds (see: his $5M Gold Card play).

If the US turns into crypto’s HQ, it’s a pipeline for startups, jobs, and foreign investments flooding stateside.

Tariffs might spike inflation and tank prices short-term, but they’re a hardball tactic to win global trade — and cement America as the financial superpower.

Checkmate.

3. Brand the Dip, Own the Spike

Trump is a marketing and branding legend.

He knows how to stay top of mind for better or for worse.

During his last term, he used the stock market as a barometer for his success as a president.

But what about crypto?

It’s smaller, wilder, and ripe for a power move.

It’s still relatively early, with a market cap of just under $3 trillion. Crypto is so small, random influencers on X can spark mass speculative mania.

Trump is a different level of influencer – why not crash it, rebuild it, and forever be associated with positive price action for the rest of time?

He’s not just saving the industry—he’s branding it, so he’s the savior.

So, Did He Do It?

I doubt it.

But it’s fun to think about.

It’s likely just tariffs and macro gloom, similar to 2022 when quantitative tightening began.

QE still hasn’t officially ended yet thanks to inflation.

Crypto is a liquidity sponge, and as long as rates are high, prices will remain muted.

Whatever happens, a cleaner crypto, free of grifters, means a healthier industry for the long term.

Buying the dip? Watching the summit? That’s your call.

All I know is the underlying fundamentals have never been better. It won’t be long before the price action reflects that.

Weirdly perfect timing, too: just 12 hours earlier, some mystery whale dumped $6M into Hyperliquid, leveraged 50x on BTC and ETH longs.

Coincidence?

You tell me.

The Trump team kept the heat on, announcing the first-ever White House Crypto Summit—big shots, big plans, a chance to steer this wild ride.

It couldn’t have hit at a better moment.

The fear/greed index was rotting at 20/100, and sentiment was grim.

Hodlers were one click from liquidation and a McDonald’s application.

The buzz was unreal—pure bullish adrenaline.

Then, the crypto curveball: Trump’s reserve teaser listed XRP, SOL, and ADA. XRP fanboys erupted, but what about the rest of us?

Brows furrowed.

A follow-up tossed BTC and ETH into the pot—crisis averted?—but the doubters were already raging.

“Taxpayers bailing out XRP bags?” “ADA’s golden ticket?”

The March 7th Summit’s got a lot to unpack because the questions are stacking up fast.

Now the twist: the rally’s already sputtering.

Ethereum’s dumped all its gains, and the charts look like the pump that just transpired never really happened.

How’s this possible with all the hype?

Here’s the deal—macro’s still a buzzkill.

Think 2022 vibes: Quantitative tightening is still on, and liquidity is thin.

Crypto’s limping after scams like LIBRA and other memecoins sucked out billions as many are still holding heavy, underperforming bags waiting for alt season to bail them out.

New cash?

Not happening—retail’s broke, and still sobering up from the bad night of drinking that was memecoin mania.

Powell’s not cutting rates anytime soon; without cheap money, this market’s treading water.

Trump’s reserve might spark a flicker, but his pressure tactics against Powell aren’t working just yet.

And here’s the real head-scratcher: the SEC’s waving the white flag, dropping cases left and right—Coinbase, OpenSea, Robinhood, Uniswap, all off the hook as of late February.

Gary Gensler and his aggressive regulation by enforcement are long gone.

You’d think the market would go crazy over this.

A regulatory chokehold lifting?

That’s pure rocket fuel—except it’s not.

Prices are flatlining. Big money is waiting.

Maybe the market’s too shell-shocked from years of Gensler’s war to trust the good news.

Or maybe TradFi’s still pricing in macro gloom over crypto wins.

Either way, until things change from a macro perspective, we’re left holding on for dear life.

The fear/greed index is tanking at 26/100, the lowest since September 2023.

This is partially due to the memecoin hype crashing and burning, echoing the NFT bust of 2021-2022.

What some hyped as crypto’s retail gateway turned into a giant cash grab—another gut punch making folks wonder, “What’s the point of this space?”

Crypto should level the financial playing field, not invent new scams with zero accountability.

It's a brutal reality check.

Could it get uglier?

Yup.

Trading’s a probability game, and a chunk of that fleeing capital isn’t returning soon.

But here’s the play: don’t vanish—pivot.

Test new apps and farm some airdrops.

Airdrops are no joke.

I got a $28,000 airdrop from MagicEden and $11,000 from Jupiter Exchange.

I even got a $200 airdrop for clicking a few buttons and signing up to Kaito.

I was late to that one and joined the day before.

It’s not much, but it’s honest work.

Companies are paying you for your data for the first time rather than extracting it and selling it to the highest bidder.

Sonic’s the next big one to watch, and it’s got legs, judging by its rapidly growing TVL.

Before I explain how to farm its airdrop, let’s unpack what Sonic is and why it’s worth your attention.

What Is It

Sonic is a layer-1 blockchain that evolved from Fantom (FTM), rebranded under Sonic Labs to enhance its predecessor’s vision.

It’s an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible network designed for high-performance decentralized applications (dApps), particularly in DeFi, gaming, and NFTs.

Launched in December 2024, Sonic combines layer-1 scalability with a custom layer-2 bridge to Ethereum, offering a hybrid solution for speed, cost, and interoperability.

What It Does Better Than Other Layer-1s

• Speed: Sonic boasts over 10,000 transactions per second (TPS) with sub-second finality (around 400-720 milliseconds), outpacing many competitors. This makes it ideal for high-frequency use cases like trading or gaming.

• Cheap Fees: Transaction costs are minimal, thanks to its efficient architecture and a Fee Monetization (FeeM) model that redistributes up to 90% of network fees to developers, reducing the burden on users.

• Ethereum Connectivity: Unlike fully isolated layer-1s, Sonic’s native Sonic Gateway bridge provides secure, decentralized access to Ethereum’s liquidity and assets, enhancing interoperability without compromising performance.

Comparison

Sonic sits between Ethereum, Solana, and emerging layer-1s like Hyperliquid.

It’s an EVM-compatible rival to Solana’s high-throughput model and a more scalable alternative to Ethereum’s layer-1, competing with Hyperliquid’s focus on trading efficiency.

Metrics

• Ethereum: 15-30 TPS, ~$1-5 fees (pre-L2), 12-15s finality vs. Sonic’s 10,000+ TPS, sub-$0.01 fees, <1s finality.

• Solana: ~3,000 TPS (real-world average), ~$0.00025 fees, ~400ms finality vs. Sonic’s higher TPS and comparable speed, with EVM compatibility as a differentiator.

• Hyperliquid: Up to 100,000 TPS (theoretical), on-chain order book focus, no EVM vs. Sonic’s broader dApp support and Ethereum bridge.

Data Showing Real Usage (TVL)

Since its mainnet launch in December 2024, Sonic’s Total Value Locked (TVL) has surged from $11 million to over $650 million by mid-February 2025, a 1,415% increase.

Daily volume has jumped from $200K to $77M, and protocol revenue recently hit $890K, signaling strong adoption in DeFi and beyond.

However, revenue fell all the way down to $17,400 due to bearish market conditions.

The Team

Sonic Labs was co-founded by Andre Cronje, a prominent DeFi innovator known for creating Yearn Finance and shaping Fantom’s early success.

After a brief hiatus, Cronje returned as Sonic’s Chief Technology Officer, bringing his expertise in optimizing blockchain execution stacks.

Why It Could Be Successful

• Technical Edge: High TPS, low latency, and EVM compatibility make it a developer-friendly powerhouse.

• Developer Incentives: The FeeM model rewards builders with up to 90% of fees, fostering a robust ecosystem.

• Cronje’s Credibility: His track record adds trust and attracts talent.

• Airdrop Boost: A 190.5 million $S token airdrop (6% of supply, ~$232M at $1.22/token) incentivizes early adoption.

Why It Could Fail

• Competition: Solana, Ethereum L2s, and Hyperliquid already dominate niches Sonic targets.

• Fantom’s Past: Fantom suffered from a $126M Multichain exploit and market downturns—Sonic must rebuild trust.

• Ecosystem Maturity: Its app ecosystem is still young compared to established chains, risking slower growth.

How to Get Money on Sonic

Sonic’s airdrop program distributes 190.5 million $S tokens across multiple seasons (the first ends mid-2025).

Coinbase Wallet is the easiest way to interact with the ecosystem, but other options exist.

The quickest way to get money into the Sonic ecosystem is deBridge.

How to Farm

There are three main ways you can farm the airdrop:

• Passive Liquidity Points: Bridge assets (e.g., via deBridge) and hold them, stake $S, or provide liquidity on approved protocols like Beets. This is the easiest way to farm and requires the least effort.

• Activity Points: Trade, transfer, or interact with whitelisted dApps (e.g., Beethoven X). Points accrue based on engagement.

Start with $100 so you can get used to everything.

Once you get the hang of onboarding funds, you can scale up capital to maximize the most points possible.

This is my standard process for airdrops.

I like to get a feel for the ecosystem before I commit more money, as not all of these projects will have massive airdrops, and I don’t want to waste my time if I see something I don’t like.

Sonic could be huge, considering a well-respected crypto developer who created it and a growing list of respected investors backing it.

You still have time, as the token won’t go live until mid-2025.

Why This Matters

Sonic isn’t just a rehash of Fantom—it’s a calculated pivot to outpace layer-1 giants.

Its speed, cost efficiency, and developer-first approach could make it a dark horse in 2025, especially with a juicy airdrop to hook early users.

Could it become the next Hyperliquid by minting early adopters with 7 figure airdrops?

How can Ethereum possibly withstand any more sell pressure as more and more shorts continue to pile up?

This is the biggest crypto hack of all time, occurring shortly after the biggest liquidation event in history.

When does it end?

The next closest hack in size and scale was the Ronin network with $625M, 2.2x lower than the Bybit hack.

The question on everyone’s mind is, will this cause some market-wide contagion, sparking another massive selloff?

As the LIBRA scam came to light, the timeline was already in complete shambles, with many expressing extreme anger.

Anger often coincides with bottoms during stock market cycles, and it’s usually the same in crypto.

While this isn’t a be-all-end-all chart, it certainly provides a loose framework to follow when assessing where we’re at in market cycles.

Extreme emotions always bubble up at extreme tops (euphoria) and extreme bottoms (anger).

As anger dissipates, it turns into depression, and many silently capitulate before the next massive rally.

Judging from the current timeline and the fear/greed index, we’re likely at that stage in the market.

Interestingly enough, Bitcoin still sits above $95,000, with many altcoins beginning to bounce, suggesting that the whole market is mostly bottomed.

However, crypto still isn’t showing any bullish momentum.

It barely rallies when good news is released, like when the SEC drops its case against Coinbase.

They also just closed their case against Opensea.

For the first time in history, crypto doesn’t have to fight being labeled a security or be worried about random fines from Gary Gensler and his cronies.

However, the market did not respond positively; instead, it sold off on the Bybit hack news.

At least it didn’t spark a major selloff (yet).

So, for now, we sit and wait.

That’s the narrative getting thrown around after the LIBRA scam, where a group of insiders backed by a VC used everyone as exit liquidity.

I’ve even seen some people say that LIBRA caused people who work in crypto to hate crypto more than retail hates crypto post-FTX.

That’s quite the accomplishment, considering crypto has never fully bounced back from that incident from a marketing and branding perspective.

There’s no denying that millions of people still think crypto is a scam after FTX, thanks in part to Operation Chokepoint 2.0 and the Biden admin.

And when people see a situation like LIBRA, it confirms it’s a scam in their heads.

But does that mean it’s as bad as what happened to FTX and Luna?

Is crypto finished?

Are our bags doomed?

Not so fast.

Sentiment is terrible, with the fear and greed index at 37/100.

It’s still not as bad as in September last year when crypto slipped down to 26/100!

That was right before Trump won the election, which sparked a monster rally.

But crypto is an emotional market, and when its users are sapped of euphoria-inducing green candles, they get loud with their discontent.

Since we topped in December, thanks to a tone shift from Jerome Powell, the market has been down only, with the biggest liquidation event in cryptos history happening in February.

That’s a crazy headline, but the market is much bigger now, with way more participants.

The actual percentage impact of that selloff was tiny compared to the other selloffs on this list.

The February crash wiped out 0.31% of the market.

FTX was an 18% wipeout; most FTX users were new retail investors.

FTX was everywhere, and it was the darling of the crypto world.

Even Tom Brady lost millions on FTX.

Additionally, when FTX collapsed, a massive contagion led to forced liquidations from all the hidden leverage in the system.

People still haven’t gotten their money back from FTX, which leaves a highly negative impression in the eyes of the masses.

The current LIBRA scam will prove to have a much smaller impact.

While FTX affected assets across multiple different ecosystems, LIBRA really only impacts the degenerate gamblers in the Solana memecoin casino.

The whole situation played out on Jupiter and Meteora, two massive Solana ecosystem apps.

But they still aren’t known apps among crypto casuals.

To top it off, the affected group is a hyper niche.

Yes, memecoins are getting more popular, but every chain has memecoins now, so it wasn’t an industry-wide event.

Even though Solana recently hit an all-time high in revenue generated and users, there are still people who only trade memecoins on Base

And many won’t go anywhere near memecoins no matter how many life-changing PNLs they see on the timeline.

The event seems much bigger than it is because a president is involved, and it is international.

But while people on FTX lost their life savings, the people who lost on LIBRA were essentially just gambling in a casino.

Which is why people like Hayden (The SBF 2.0 mastermind), are justified in their scams. They’re merely robbing from the degenerates and giving the money to themselves, arguably even bigger degenerates.

I mean, you’re definitely a massive degenerate if you pay off the sister of a president and call him an N-word, flexing on how you can get him to do whatever he wants.

Even Javier Milei himself basically says, “There’s no crying in the casino” during a recent interview.

But at the end of the day, Hayden didn’t rob your grandma of her Bitcoin sitting on FTX.

People don’t have much sympathy for gamblers because everyone collectively knows what they’re getting into.

And many consider them excessively money-driven and greedy.

I’m not justifying the behavior. All I’m doing is playing devil’s advocate.

Yes, insider trading is wrong, but at the same time, we all know the odds are stacked against us when gambling.

You could even argue that casinos are insiders, shading the lines and adjusting the odds to make winning over the long run impossible.

But hey, at least they're open and honest about their scam, which is enough for millions of people to fly into Vegas and willingly lose billions.

When FTX collapsed, you, your mom, dad, grandma, sister, and cousin were all affected.

With the whole LIBRA situation, it’s a fringe group of degenerate gamblers led by mop-haired autistic streamers egging them on to “lock in” or become a wage slave.

So, where does that leave crypto?

The sentiment is BAD right now, but it was even worse 5 months ago when the fear greed index hit 26/100, 11 points lower than the 37/100 it’s sitting at right now.

Sure, you could argue that we see lower prices because of that, but how much lower can it really go from here?

Some of these memecoin charts are already hilariously bad.

Crypto has been in these situations multiple times where it feels bleak, and then out of nowhere, a massive rally comes, and green candles erase the losses and mistakes made by the participants.

Euphoria floods the market, and last month's regret of buying Chat GPT wrapper memecoins is erased overnight.

If you still somehow think that this situation is FTX-level and there will be some contagion, it’s still historically a good time to buy.

If you bought the FTX lows on Bitcoin and Solana, you’d be up 6x and 30x respectively.

Right now, the market is essentially scraping the bottom.

Despite all of this, Bitcoin is sitting at just under $100,000. We’ve come a long way since the 2017 crash, and COVID crash.

And while a lot of coins may never bounce and make new all-time highs, the strongest projects will.

Many are predicting a flight back to “utility,” but that remains to be seen.

A whopping 69.9% of its supply was allocated to the community, compared to an average of 36.1% for other networks.

Airdrops usually lead to a massive selloff, and the token never recovers. Magic Eden, Blur, and Bera are the most recent examples.

However, Hyperliquid is up almost 10x from its airdrop, and momentum seems to be building instead of fading.

The app is already one of the most used in crypto, recently generating $84.73M in revenue ($595M annualized).

Hyperliquids app first, no VC allocation approach, along with the biggest airdrop of all time, are the reasons you see so many people on X bull-posting it.

The airdrop was bigger than Uniswap ($500M) and dYdX ($1B); multiple people made well over seven figures for being an early adopter.

But does Hyperliquid have any staying power beyond the airdrop?

Or is it doomed to become the next L1 ghost chain that never ships anything meaningful?

What is Hyperliquid?

Hyperliquid is a high-performance layer-1 blockchain with a fully on-chain order book derivatives exchange.

It combines the speed and liquidity of a CEX with the transparency and security of a DEX.

The launch of Hyperliquid is timely as it’s already captured a significant amount of mindshare at the very start of an accelerating trend.

More people are starting to prefer a DEX over a CEX like Coinbase.

In February 2025, DEXs accounted for roughly 20% of the total crypto trading volume, up almost 3x from 8% in early 2023.

Additionally, the TVL of DeFi protocols has surpassed $200B globally, showing an increased comfort with leaving assets on-chain over a CEX.

For the sake of comparison, let’s review how it stacks up against Binance.

Comparison: Hyperliquid vs. Binance

Hyperliquid already has a daily trading volume of $5B, compared to Binance’s $26B.

It has a blistering 200,000 TPS transaction speed compared to BNB chain’s 100,000 TPS. Fees are lower for Hyperliquid, and they don’t currently require KYC.

Hyperliquid has already captured 32.4% of crypto derivatives trading, hitting $77.7B in trading volume in December alone.

Hyperliquid generates income through platform fees ($24.5M/month) and token auctions ($2M/month), with annualized revenue expected to reach $527M in 2025, recently placing it just behind Ethereum and Solana.

What’s Next?

First off, HYPEREVM is set to launch sometime in Q1 2025, with more dApps joining the ecosystem every day.

Second, they are planning a season 2 airdrop, with an additional 38.88% to future emissions and community rewards, with a total of 76.2% going to the community.

Hyperliquid will also add spot BTC trading and a natively embedded multi-sig.

They’re also lightning-fast at adding new pairs, as evidenced by the listing of TRUMP and MELANIA.

The speed of listing new assets is crucial if they want to outcompete Coinbase and Binance, especially since Coinbase is currently struggling with user backlash.

Soon, Hyperliquid will also support liquid staking, allowing holders to earn additional yield.

Verdict

Hyperliquid continues to post impressive trading volume, with $479B in the last 3 months with an average daily volume of $5.3B.

Additionally, it demonstrates impressive price action in the most bearish conditions in crypto.

Hyperliquids unique approach and airdrop have bootstrapped an early, diehard community and revenue model that’s already competing with the top centralized exchanges in crypto.

Its FDV currently sits at $23.6B, while its market cap is at $7.8B.

This may seem high, but remember that only 30% of $HYPE is in circulation now.

Many think $HYPE could reach a $100B FDV in the near future, considering how much activity and attention it’s already captured.

By comparison, it already has more TVL than AVAX, which has been around much longer and doesn’t have as much activity.

One of the most relevant comparisons for Hyperliquid is Binance, as they took a similar approach to BNB, which sits at an FDV of $88B.

Can Hyperliquid catch BNB chain?

Time will tell.

The early numbers for Hyperliquid are impressive, and if it maintains this trajectory, it could very well be one of the top crypto projects when the market picks back up.

With the current altcoin bloodbath, more people will be looking for already successful protocols over ones that promise future success.

CPI increased to 3.3%, the hottest report since 2023, leading to a selloff in crypto and stocks.

Just a day ago, Jerome Powell said they are in no hurry to cut rates, which has massive implications for crypto and the stock market.

Post CPI, the market now projects only one rate cut this year, in October 2025. To top it off, the next rate cut is projected to be in December 2026!

This is a massive shift in policy from what was expected. The quantitative easing moon boys projected multiple rate cuts in 2025 and figured Trump would pressure Powell to start cutting.

With his legacy on the line, it doesn’t appear Jerome is willing to budge and is hellbent on hitting his arbitrary target of 2%.

But who cares about CPI? What does all this mean for our bags?

It’s not good.

Crypto is at an interesting point in the market cycle.

For the first time, crypto is working directly with the government on positive policy decisions.

Trump in office is extremely bullish in the long term, but his recent Tariffs are short-term bearish.

The bad news is that today’s CPI print doesn’t include Tariffs in the reading, which means inflation will likely be higher in a few months.

Is crypto destined to nuke even harder?

We just witnessed the largest liquidation event in the history of crypto while the Fear and Greed index sits at 35/100.

It can go lower, but not by much. The lowest the index has been in the last year is 26/100.

Simply put, there aren’t many sellers left, and they are exhausted.

However, that doesn’t mean we can’t get some time-based capitulation over the next several months when people start quietly giving up.

Additionally, sentiment is already extremely low.

So, are we in a bear market?

We could very well be, although no one in crypto wants to admit it.

If you post anything bearish on the TL, you get relentlessly attacked.

Many KOLs keep posting nonsense like “alt season is coming” and “the bull market hasn’t even started yet.”

These KOLs are merely engagement farming you, as bullish content always gets the most engagement as people seek confirmation bias on the TL.

Some of them are holding heavy bags and desperately trying to get unstuck.

We’ve had several massive rallies and hit peak euphoria multiple times over the last year. The Bitcoin low was $15,000, now at just under $100,000.

People deny this because many have held Ethereum while Solana 30xed and Bitcoin 6xed—several people printed millions on meme coins.

Where we’re at right now is similar to the summer of 2024 after the market peaked in April of that year.

This led to 8 months of market chop before we rallied when it was clear that Trump would be elected.

So, what now?

While everything seems max bearish right now, it’s not all bad.

Trump is in office, and everyone is working on positive policy changes for crypto.

The market will resolve higher in time, but it is tough to predict when.

As I said, we’ve already experienced the worst of the selling.

It’s the absolute worst time to sell when people are max bearish, and the TL is in shambles.

A chop market is excellent for accumulating your favorite coins for when the inevitable pump begins.

Whatever you do, don’t over-trade.

Research projects and DCA into them as the market digests the news.

This could last weeks or months. It’s tough to tell.

For now, hang on and survive.

The Problems of Web2 Gaming

While gaming is an exploding industry that is expected to continue to grow, quite a few problems plague it today.

Two of the biggest are:

Lack of Ownership

Many of you reading may have spent countless hours playing World of Warcraft, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Elden Ring, Hearthstone, and IRL games like Magic The Gathering.

With Magic The Gathering, you at least have the opportunity to sell rare cards on the open market for thousands or sometimes millions of dollars. In the case of Hearthstone, you can’t transfer the cards to anyone, and the time you’ve invested will be lost forever.

With video games, the only thing you have to show for it is thousands of hours of entertainment and thousands of dollars spent on gaming consoles and future iterations of games.

Centralized Control

All game companies are centrally controlled entities, and the players and community have zero input into how gameplay changes or what games should be built.

Many complain that gaming has become like movies, where the same concept is repeated with minor improvements with little to no impact.

This is due to distribution.

When you launch a franchise, you have limited distribution channels or community unless the game takes off.

Often, gaming studios have to spend millions of dollars to build these distribution channels.

That’s a big reason why movies and games rehash and release new iterations of a game with only minor tweaks to gameplay.

Additionally, gamers have no direct stake in the games or opportunity to invest in them, leaving them with nothing to show for being fans of the game.

Imagine if you could have invested early into Madden, Call of Duty, World of WarCraft, or other popular games.

That’s not possible in web2 gaming but with games built on top of crypto.

How Echelon Prime Solves This

  • Matches are 1vs1, turn-based battles where players aim to reduce their opponent's health to zero.

  • Cards have various types, such as Units, Relics, and Upgrades, each with specific roles and abilities.

  • Utilizes blockchain for true ownership of digital assets.

Are people playing the game?

It appears so.

Transactions a day peaked at 8,000 on May 1st, 2024, while active monthly addresses peaked at 17,100 on June 24th, 2024.

However, daily transactions have nuked to about 1,000/day today.

This mirrors the broader crypto market’s liquidity drain.

Transactions are down across most chains, including Solana, which seems to have hit an all-time low in volume.

Because liquidity and crypto prices are down, there is a backlash against Parallel, similar to Axie Infinity, after the 2021 bull market.

While I’m not defending the critiques, this is standard in crypto and I witnessed it first hand when I worked at a crypto startup.

When the market outlook is bleak, the community and critics emerge from the woodwork, pointing out everything wrong with your app or chain.

It happens with Bitcoin, too.

You never hear critics say Bitcoin is a scam when the price is going up, but they lash out after every pullback.

However, I suggest using it to balance your expectations.

Crypto gaming still has a long way to go, and there will be bugs and issues that need to be improved along the way.

Echelon PRIME has several exciting updates in the works, including:

Parallel Colony

A new game within the Echelon Prime ecosystem that combines AI-driven avatars with resource management and strategy. It is in beta and offers new ways for players to earn and spend PRIME tokens.

Bonds System

Final Thoughts

Having worked in crypto for 4 years and been part of 3 cycles, I’m familiar with the blowback Echelon Prime and Parallel are getting right now.

Crypto moves in cycles.

When prices are up, expectations get ahead of reality. Everyone is making money, and crypto is the future of everything.

When prices are down, your critics start bashing you for everything, and the community quickly turns on you because they’re losing money.

There’s a lot of psychology in crypto that people don’t fully comprehend, especially if you’re new.

Greed flairs, and people forget to click the sell button, thinking things will go up forever.

I’m not saying that there aren’t things to improve here.

Far from it.

I’m saying the reality is between the hopium and negativity circulating on CT.

Echelon Prime has a unique approach to building the ecosystem by leveraging its community.

It’s an opportunity to get involved in a game that enables you to monetize your time.

They are shipping regularly and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.

It’s a project worth keeping an eye on.

Of course, you have to be careful with the unlock schedule as new supply of $PRIME will continue to hit the market.

All that said, the foundation has delayed its unlock schedule to 2025, while the investors unlocked it starting in 2023.

That’s a year of selling from investors, who own 16% of $PRIME.

So, a decent amount has to have already hit the market over the last yr or so.

$PRIME is worth watching for when things start to turn around.

Gary Gensler is back at it again.

I wondered what he’s been up to, as he’s been relatively quiet over the last several months.

This attack raises the question – What’s the difference between digital and physical collectibles?

We’re quickly careening into a digital-first world, where our digital persona is more important, and we hardly ever handle physical money.

So why attack other than to collect fines and destroy crypto? Crypto has become the honey pot of the SEC!

Many denounce this attempt as another example of regulation through enforcement action or a Hail Mary pass.

The most likely outcome is that Opensea pays a hefty fine to make it disappear, similar to what Kraken and most other crypto companies have done over the last several years.

The SEC is basically a mafia arm of whoever is in office – Pay us, or there will be more attacks and heftier fines.

But will the attacks really go away?

Not likely if Kamala Harris wins in November.

While she has postured and said she is open to crypto, there hasn’t been any action to prove it.

The Democrats left crypto off their 2024 platform while including other technology, such as AI.

Rumors are also circulating that Kamala will nominate Gary as treasury secretary if elected.

If that’s true, it would make sense that crypto isn’t in their party platform because they want to leave a gray area to continue their attacks.

This is counter to Trump's strategy, which is to go all-in on crypto.

But who's in the lead to win?

According to Polymarket, the election is still a coin flip, which is insane considering how much hangs in the balance.

Just last week, the bull market was back, baby!

And now, this week, it’s all over again, as Bitcoin rallied from $58,000 to $65,000 and quickly reversed over the last few days.

Using Trading Alpha indicators, the daily chart showed a double bottom signal, meaning it was a high-probability buy zone.

Just a few days ago, there was a top signal (yellow T), a reversal signal (yellow R), and an 8 (bearish signal).

The daily chart now has red dots, meaning the trend is bearish. The bullish structure has been destroyed, and the bulls have some work to do to recover.

It may be too much to ask with the current macro environment.

The total market cap of crypto has a very similar chart pattern, which means the future is volatile and choppy.

Why the selloff?

There’s a lot of uncertainty in the markets, with the election a coin flip and many predicting a massive stock market sell-off in September.

Looming rate cuts also signal a weakening economy, which means the market corrects before it recovers and runs up again.

Many are bracing themselves for this situation to play out in September and selling in advance to try and catch the bottom.

The recent market dip of $185 million in 45 minutes has raised questions about the Silvergate Bank situation.

So what's happening with Silvergate?

Rumors are circulating about Silvergate Bank's poor earnings report, which they delayed.

In addition, the market's plummet appears to be linked to Silvergate's stability concerns, as several major crypto exchanges have stopped accepting payments through them.

The crypto-friendly bank suffered a billion-dollar loss in Q4 2022 from FTX, in which they had significant exposure. This loss and the current "bank run" have put Silvergate at risk of bankruptcy, with potential losses that could be even higher.

Ironically, Silvergate's contagion from FTX could trigger more contagion for the entire crypto industry.

Coinbase Global, Galaxy Digital Holdings, Paxos Trust, and other crypto firms have stopped accepting or initiating payments through Silvergate, and others could soon follow their lead.

Mysterious Ethereum Whale Wallet

Have you heard of the mysterious Ethereum whale wallet? While everyone knows about the Bitcoin whale wallet, this one has a different story.

The wallet bought $75,000 worth of ETH during the ICO back in 2014 and has never made a single transaction.

Yet, now it's worth an incredible $400 million and has received $6.5 million in airdrops along the way. Who could it belong to?

No one knows, and we probably never will. Perhaps the owner passed away or lost access to the wallet. It's a mystery that may never be solved.

But let's talk about something exciting happening in the world of Ethereum. ETHDenver, the biggest Ethereum event of the year, has drawn in an incredible 25,000 people so far!

You'd think it was a bull market if you were at the event and never looked at the charts. One of the big announcements is the new ERC-4337 standard that will enable account abstraction.

What is account abstraction, you ask?

Essentially, users can abstract their main keys away from the network, allowing them to implement more advanced security measures.

This new standard is expected to unlock a wide range of user experience improvements on Ethereum and the greater web3 ecosystem as a whole.

Interestingly enough, account abstraction is as old as Ethereum itself, as Vitalik wrote about it almost a decade ago.

So it's exciting to see this feature finally come to fruition, and it could change the game for Ethereum and the entire crypto industry.

It’s a Security Because I Said So

Gary is at it again with his fear-mongering. He claims that everything in crypto is a security, except Bitcoin. Some speculate that he's been holding a massive bag of Bitcoin for quite some time.

But do Gary's constant warnings really matter in the long run? The SEC is civil, not criminal, and some believe he's only scaring people to collect fines worth millions of dollars.

In reality, what Gary says about crypto being a security is not legally binding because judges get to make the final call. Crypto is a complex area that requires careful consideration, and fear-mongering doesn't help anyone.

It's been a wild week in the crypto world, but what else is new?

If the red candles worth $185 billion still phase you, give it a few years, and you'll be completely numb to them.

Despite the ups and downs, the future of crypto is bright, and we can't wait to see where it takes us.

Coinbase is BASED!

Coinbase just made a HUGE splash in the web3 with their announcement of Base - a game-changing layer-2 blockchain that doesn't use a token and is built on the powerful Optimism stack, another layer-2 technology.

Sound complicated?

We'll break it down for you.

You see we’re in a weird stage of web3 – we can build consumer-facing applications but the UX sucks so bad that it’s hard to onboard new users into the ecosystem.

The apps aren’t good enough yet for your girlfriend who knows nothing about web3 to use them on a daily basis.

Why would she use a web3 Pinterest if she had to log in with a MetaMask and sign a transaction every time she uploaded a photo, liked, followed, or commented?

Enter Coinbase which has one of the best onramps in all of crypto. They have close to 100 million verified users and mostly good UX but what are those users doing?

They’re speculating on dog meme coins, that’s what!

We have to get past the speculation phase to achieve mass adoption in web3.

However, Coinbase kept running into the same problem – what apps should they build and what blockchain should they deploy it on?

That’s one of the biggest friction points for developers entering crypto which leaves us with not many apps your girlfriend wants to use.

So, Coinbase decided to build its own blockchain that makes it easy to build consumer phasing apps that could spark mass adoption. By doing this Coinbase is:

• Competing with Optimisim by using their OP stack

• Competing with itself

It’s clever, and somewhat crazy because they’re a publicly traded company and most Wallstreet people will see it as a dumb move because someone could show up and build an app that competes with Coinbase.

However, they see it as a rising tide lifts all ships type of thing. If we get to billions of users in web3, that will also help them as one of the best onramps in all of crypto.

Apps in crypto are VERY high leverage.

For example, Uniswap was built with a much smaller team and had a massive impact compared to some bank in web2 that employs thousands of people.

They also believe that “on-chain is the new online” which means they’re betting that in the future, people won’t pick whether they want to build in web2 or web3, they will just build in web3.

Who needs boring old stocks when you can trade funky monkey NFTs?

It's a blast, but let's be real - it's not the most practical use for these digital assets.

Sure, they catch our attention and generate some buzz, but there's only so much hype to go around.

We've already seen glimpses of this potential, but everyone has been holding their breath for a major tech company to take the plunge and integrate NFTs.

Well, the wait is over - Spotify has finally answered the call and joined the NFT game!

“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience.

Some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience, and others serve only as important learnings.

We have no further news to share on future plans at this time,” a Spotify spokesperson said.

Web3 is where the real action is.

It's the future of revenue for creators, and we've only scratched the surface of its potential.

Spotify is one example of what could be many in the not-too-distant future especially when you hear that the new YouTube CEO has a bullish outlook on web3.

Big tech has been swinging the axe!

Thousands of people are getting the boot as companies focus on maximizing efficiency and productivity.

And now, this trend is hitting the world of Web3, with MagicEden and Polygon both announcing layoffs of around 20% of their workforce.

After raising an impressive $450 million and establishing major partnerships with global brands like Starbucks, it’s somewhat shocking to see Polygon lay off employees.

That said, you’ll also notice they spent roughly $200 million dollars with rumors floating around they paid Starbucks $20 million for the partnership.

However, it did not have a big impact on the token price until recently, and apparently, that wasn’t enough.

What does that mean for the outlook of web3?

Not much.

The NFT marketplace wars are heating up as Opensea has been the dominating force since 2021, and other competitors – such as Looksrare - have continued to take a bite out of their market share.

Many have been calling for a better Opensea for a long time, as the platform has many UX issues. However, even with all its flaws, Opensea still was considered the market leader until now.

Enter Blur, the NFT marketplace that suddenly has 10x the volume of Opensea as they scramble to catch up.

But how could Blur start from 0 and become the leading NFT marketplace seemingly overnight?

Background on Blur and Their NFT Thesis

According to Pacman, the founder of Blur NFT marketplace, they've been building for 400 days, roughly a week after Looksrare went live.

What differentiates Blur from its competitors is its thesis on the NFT market, which led to its decision to target pro-NFT traders instead of retail.

While retail traders will pay more fees, pro traders command the majority of the NFT exchange volume across web3.

In fact, some believe up to 95% of the trading volume in crypto is from the top 1% - 5% of traders and that it could be even more concentrated in the NFT market due to massive market inefficiencies.

While Pacman fell in love with NFT trading, he was left unimpressed with the infrastructure and user experience during the 2021 bull run – no platform catered to the pro-trading demographic.

In NFTs, there really are only two personas that matter – retail and pro while everyone else falls in between.

NFTs mirror the same market trend that crypto went through in its early days, where only a few marketplaces that targeted a retail audience existed. There weren't any institutional investor or pro trader offerings until around 2018 - 2019, when Binance came into the picture.

Today, multiple exchanges cater to pro traders and institutional investors as the market matures. So, Blur decided from the very start to target pro-JPEG traders instead of retail (Opensea's primary demographic).

At the end of the day, NFT buyers and sellers go where the liquidity is, and in web3, liquidity = attention.

UX First Mentality

Blur stayed in beta for five months before they finally went live.

Why?

They wanted to ensure they had built out optimal retention funnels before executing a series of airdrops; most users would leave once it was completed.

During the bear market, even the most popular NFT platforms, like Opensea and NBA Top Shot, lost a significant amount of volume and users as the market cap of web3 plummeted.

For the user experience, they decided to focus on two areas: speed and bulk execution.

Even retail traders think Opensea is slow, clunky, and difficult to use. In addition, the experience is incredibly confusing for new users looking to bid on NFTs, as you have to wrap and unwrap ETH.

They removed the need to wrap ETH by creating bidding pools, where users locked their Ethereum and never had to wrap or unwrap, which allowed them to buy, sell, and trade much faster than they could on Opensea.

As it stands now, there is $135 million in ETH in the Blur bidding pools. So, if users want to take advantage of this simple improvement in UX, they have to leave their ETH in the pools, which also locks in real liquidity on the Blur platform.

This UX also allowed them to incentivize liquidity over volume by rewarding users for their bids.

Incentivizing Liquidity or Volume

What does it mean to incentivize liquidity over volume? The best example is Looksrare, which launched a week before Blur even started building and had a massive head start in attracting pro traders to their platform.

Looksrare rewarded generating trading volume by giving users a rebate on all of their trades which commanded a crazy amount of volume. However, to this day, 95% of Looksrare volume is supposedly wash trading.

This isn't considered organic liquidity.

Blur incentivizes people to bring real, organic liquidity with the bid and the ask. In addition, with every bid and ask, users, earn loyalty points, and they can maximize their loyalty score by listing NFTs lower on Blur over other marketplaces.

Bids closest to the floor are rewarded the most.

The only two marketplaces with little to no wash trading in Blur and Opensea.

The Blur Airdrop – Adding Gasoline to the fire

Leading up to the airdrop, Blur had carefully crafted a better user experience while in beta targeting speed for the pro trader demographic.

In addition, they created a way to bring real liquidity to the platform and planned to retain the users when they were finally ready to open to the public.

This is where things get very interesting and clever as they executed a phased airdrop, rewarding users for sticking with them along the way. You can read a full breakdown of the mechanics of the airdrop from an impressive article by Variant here, but I will touch on the key points below.

Blur kept users engaged and onboarded them to new product features as they were launched in phases. Additionally, they could build supply and demand by building their network in stages.

Doing their airdrop in phases also created a level of uncertainty with their user base, as the specifics were only known once launched. As a result, they used care packages to provide users with short-term rewards through care packages to keep users satisfied until the next airdrop.

Additionally, each subsequent airdrop was worth more than the next, creating an incentive to keep participating. According to a study linked in the Variant article, researchers found that an uncertain reward generates greater motivation and effort.

They also had tiered care packages of varying rarity levels, which added an additional layer of gamification, adding more incentive for users to get care packages of greater rarity.

Random users could also get care packages if they retweeted announcements. If you wanted to open a care package or claim the airdrop, you also had to tweet it out.

To get off the waitlist to join the early beta, users needed to accrue as many blur points as possible, which was made public through a leaderboard. So, influencers posted their referral links, resulting in new users joining Blur. The more new users an existing user-generated, the more points you got, which started an invite frenzy.

All of this led to an explosion of virality, buzz, and liquidity to the platform resulting in Blur establishing itself as the NFT market leader. Blur currently sits at 40% market share, and the value of the airdrop is just over $434 million.

Opensea Scrambles to Catch Up

Blur currently commands everything you need to be successful in web3:

• Attention

• Liquidity

• Better product features

• Better UX

They obviously caught Opensea completely unaware, magnifying their flaws and forcing them to catch up by overreacting.

Opensea has dropped fees to $0 and has copied some of Blur's features. That said, Blur is still in the woods.

In web3, everything is volatile and moves fast. Because you're an established market leader, a clever growth hack is all it takes for the competition to overtake you.

It remains to be seen if Blur can maintain liquidity on the platform. Historically, an airdrop leads to massive token dumping, which has already happened. Once the initial group of people dumps, the strong hands come in and buy the token.

This is playing out similarly for Blur, but no one truly knows if their growth hack and retention optimization will lead to sustainable growth for their platform.

SEC Chair Gary Gensler is making good on his threats to crack down on crypto-related activities, having issued a $30 million fine against Kraken last week and proposed amending a federal custody requirement requiring all exchanges to gain further regulatory approval.

He's not stopping there - the SEC is also going after Paxos for issuing BUSD, which they consider an unregistered security, and recently brought charges against Do Kwon and Terra Luna.

Even HOF basketball player Paul Pierce has been affected by Gensler's aggressive stance, having to pay a hefty fine of $1.4 million for promoting a scam EthereumMAX project - almost 6 times more than the amount he made from it.

Please stop with the clown memes already!

While Do Kown and Terra Luna should be held accountable for their actions, calling BUSD a security does not make sense. Gary is simply cherry-picking the weakest targets to gain power and influence for the ultimate goal of absolute control over crypto.

Brian Armstrong Ready for Battle

Brian Armstrong and Coinbase are taking a stand against Gary and the SEC in order to ensure that the US does not lose ground as a financial hub.

The SEC's stance against crypto has been met with resistance from the crypto community. While Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, is on the frontlines, Senator Bill Hagerty and SEC Comissioner Hester Pierce have also been vocal advocates and supporters of crypto. We need all the help we can get as we face a coordinated attack from the Biden administration.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is showing much greater levels of aggression not seen since 2018. It’s currently unclear how this new level of enforcement will play out, however the stakes are high and the implications are massive.

Inflation is a Bitch ain’t it?

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's ongoing efforts to combat inflation have been unsuccessful, as evidenced by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) coming in at 6.4% year-over-year - higher than expected. Furthermore, CPI was revised upward for the November, December, and January months.

Additionally, shelter inflation is up +7.88% while rent inflation is up +8.56% while unemployment remains at historical lows.

Jerome Powell is determined to go down with the ship while continuing with his monetary policy of interest rate hikes which may not be having its desired effect.

Why is inflation still so high with so many aggressive rate hikes?

It could be the historic money printing to a track record of bad predictions from "leading economists" and the Federal Reserve. Regardless, it appears that at least two more rate hikes in 2023 are likely on the horizon, not that it really matters at this point.

The Markets DGAF

Bitcoin continues its rally from the lows of $16,000 in June to a current high of $25,000. Altcoins have also seen a significant growth in value over this period. Investors appear to be eager to move and take action, signaling that "degens" are sick of sitting on their hands and waiting.

It’s almost as if crypto investors are calling the SEC’s bluff and trolling Gary. Many believe that the worst is behind us and after just two more rate hikes, the market will “melt up.”

Abu Dhabi has recently made a big move into the web3 space, launching a $2 billion fund dedicated to investing in and supporting startups in the industry. This is great news for anyone looking to get involved in this growing sector as it shows that there is serious potential for growth.

With multiple billion dollar funds entering web3, crypto is here to stay and the US risks falling behind if it does not keep up with the growth of this industry. Gary's efforts to collect fines from those involved in cryptocurrency may have short-term benefits for his ego, but at the end of the day, it won't affect crypto's long-term success. Countries like Abu Dhabi are ready to take the lead whenever the US falters.

At the end of the day, crypto will outlast Gary Gensler. While he will win a few battles that will make headlines, he will ultimately lose the war.
